Sun

In a world of

bleak apparitions

that haunt nights

in coldness

and darkness

and shivering toes

with curses

and quick prayers

uttered to fight

them all away

.

I ask, please

let me be the sun

that rises daily

and smiles back

and shines bright

to see another sky

i wish, please

let me be the sun

that isn’t afraid

of ghosts.

The Best Kind Of Mess

Talk to me now while I’m sober
The way that you look
I know it’s almost over
The fighting has stopped
But I’m still so lost
Will you bring me in…

~*~

It’s funny, isn’t it?

Seeing your best friend transform into a snivelling mess

Well go ahead—laugh! It’s a total riot when she confesses

That her failing life is fractured into tiny irreparable pieces

The smarmy sceptics jeer, the constructive critics excoriate

She’s an aperture starling, media darling everyone loves to hate

.

It’s funny, isn’t it?

Seeing your best friend falling apart into fragments very fast

Well go ahead—watch! It’s a riveting soap opera, if you must

When she gets caught up in the viscid webs of predatorial lust

This is her idiosyncratic truman show delusion, she’s so paranoid

She’s spinning circles in the rusty train tracks you laid and avoid

.

It’s funny, isn’t it?

Seeing your best friend holding on, hanging by a hairline thread

Well go ahead—contribute! Let your personal two cents be said

Tell her that she’s simply beautiful when she’s just left for dead

She’s spiralling into decadence deep and morbid madness divine

Each libel released a sharp paralysing injection in her numb spine

.

It’s funny, isn’t it?

Seeing your best friend turn into a news story, a penny paid scandal

Well go ahead—ignore! But follow her face on every tabloid rehearsal

She dégringolades further into abyssal chasms of odious withdrawals

She’s sunken, ragged, washed out, enervated, worn out, she’s all alone

Why the hell’s that spindly girl still breathing? She’s a walking skeleton!

.

It’s funny, isn’t it?

Seeing your best friend’s physique metamorphose into the best kind of mess

Well go ahead—feel sorry now! When it’s all too late to backtrack and reassess

A friend…why do you still even call her that? Pity, you’re so thoroughly shameless

Get her away from the cameras and glamour, away from your cruel bloodied hands

You’ve all throttled, bruised, strangled her noose, you killed her, don’t you understand?

She’s taken the toll now, she’s taken the fall somehow, the least you can do is bury her splintered bones

Let your best friend taste a sliver of peace once more as Death arrives to take her lacerated soul home.

I’m another lush
I’m another liar
How will I stop
When will I start learning…

Purple Ink (an adventure in absentia)

You accidentally slipped in purple ink and died

Because you were busy pacing, too preoccupied

Chewing nervously on the end of your dented Biro

Accentuating every last thought with a sigh hitherto

.

Upon waking and discovery, you jolt in a dazed state

Your dirt-beaten striped sneakers noisily squeaking

As you dusted yourself and held your awaiting fate

You began your unlikely journey and start travelling

.

Wandering lost upon a forestry of a wildlife mind

Every thick foliage a verdant idea finely efflorescing

Every path an untraced road of the life you left behind

Crushed carmine blossoms plucked away and wilting

.

No sense of direction. Where are you? The lunar ostentation

Pierces into your amour-propre, setting it blindingly alight

With your foolish absurdity, in bland starless observations

Of the complacent monsters you’ve yet to encounter and fight

.

Chasing after creeping vineyards, when their wine is parched

Do you understand? They’ve nothing left to give your thirsty soul

A paucity of the former, this broken forest you vainly marched

What’s the endgame to this latent excuse of a failing goal?

.

Your sanity has turned upon yourself, hordes of screaming demons

That reach for your insatiable hunger, in a lusting of the brain stem

Where’s the exit? Where’s the exit? You attempt vainly yet stumble, gone

Reaching for the light at the end of the tunnel as they devour your lumen

.

Consciousness prods at your eyes, the form of an almost irritating light

Hear an alarm of a beeping machine like a metronome and salty liquid

Your head shall be fine, you’ll recover, doctors assure your ghastly sight

Their placated shiny smiles of false relief dripping disgustingly insipid

.

You accidentally slipped in purple ink, hit your head, and yet surprisingly survived

They said it was a nice miracle, but then again, the Vatican fabulists love a good lie

For the creatures slopped their saliva all over your cerebrum, infecting you thereon

Think it a ludicrous story? Dear, you should’ve seen that slimy ink you stepped upon.

Light Up The Sky

I blaze a trail like the rays from taillights
Sound shaking the ground like earthquakes hail might
Someday I’ll die but not tonight
Excuse me while I light up the sky…

~*~

Same faltering cycles, none so tumultuous

Days shrouded by clouds of cumulonimbus

Candy floss skies eaten away by falling rains

A nuanced ray of sun I can no longer sustain

.

So why won’t you just light up the sky

For me, steal another with your sighs

Show me the world when my attention

Wishes to be far from ennui detention

.

I used to taste sweet stars dancing on my skin

But they’ve all blinked out to dark noughts now

Woe is me, and to the midnight sky I shall cling

Lost and floating like an empty vessel of sorrow

.

So won’t you simply light up the sky

For me, when I’ve no tears left to cry

Show me the universe when my soul

Wishes to be a scorned lump of coal

.

Yet dear, these are but mere amorphous shadows

What have you left in yourself to fight them back?

If I hurt myself on a thorn, would I blame the rose?

If I wound up missing, is it the forest’s own attack?

.

So why won’t we just light up this dark sky

To be this hazy planet’s new guiding lights

Show them the path when their condescension

Beats their senses back into a faux contradiction

.

But dear, the sun and moon tire of rising daily too

Can’t you feel their candescent hearts oscillating?

Will our coalesced illumination see them through?

Shall we leave them in their humble tapestry’s resting?

.

Dear, why won’t you and I just already light up the sky?

When crepuscular affinities arrive, they cometh descry

Let’s bask in our astral pains, let it be our fetid oxygen

And tomorrow let rejuvenated cosmos rise once again.

Parasitosis

Worn out and faded
The weakness starts to show
They’ve created the generation
That we know
Washed up and hated…

~*~

The parasites;

Unnoticed at first

An itch, maybe red

That grows tainted

.

The parasites;

I’m a chosen victim

I can feel them move

Underneath my skin

.

The parasites;

They fester and grow

Writhing ever madly

Infecting me so slow

.

The parasites;

Damages and injures

Abrasions and lesions

Clear detriment ensues

.

The parasites;

Contaminate and corrupt

Polluting my clean mind

Weakening and disrupts

.

The parasites;

They wrench and leech

Bloodsucking exploits

I fall sick and beseech

.

The parasites;

Invade the environment

Peace left in sediments

A revolting impediment

.

The parasites;

Ravaged and rampaged

Infesting and infecting

Assail, overrun, pillaged

.

The parasites;

Stealing what isn’t theirs

Feeding on fallen ideals

Gorging in sickening curs

.

The parasites;

Ugly creations they may be

Yet for the very life of me

I can’t get them to go leave

.

The parasites;

Feast in surfeit and decay

Seep into me and infiltrate

Bound forever within to stay

.

The parasites;

Infecting quite relentlessly

Multiplying exponentially

Spreading all over my body

.

The parasites;

They overtake and override

Surpass, alter my humanity

Every inch of my skin’s hide

.

The parasites;

Is what my system’s now composed of

A parasitoid being, entangled till bloat

But how could I complain? I’d let them

Enter—this ail seems to be all my fault.

You made it
You played it
Your shit is overrated

Greatest Treasure

My mistress’s soul hath longed to seek finer fortune winds

Whereupon seeds of chartreuse grass blusters and grows

Akin to the radiant canary sun, her most youthful fair skin

Upon the cherry blossom horizon, glitters finely and glows

Treading tentative upon quaint dotted rhododendron bushes

To fill her wicker basket with the ripest succulent blackberries

Silvery light catches her mellow lemony hair’s ringlets tresses

My bonny mistress’s efflorescent spirit nay falters nor wearies

Lithe body like a chromatic hummingbird’s wings arched in flight

Roses damasked red and rogue on plump lips and flushed cheeks

Serene zephyr doth pass, carrying with its breeze a sound quite

Like the merry Stradivarian laugh that which thy mistress speaks

She flits posthaste, non dither, questing from blossom to nectar

Yet soon my aromantic honeybee learns that life isn’t all sweet

When flourishing foliages swiftly wilt, leaving but a tawny scar

And those frigid turbulent rains make her vitality falter and fleet

My mistress doth seeked her fate on the outside world, yet she barely survived

Only to discover, unfortunately, that all that joie de vivre hath but misery belied

My lost mistress shall wander her path home soon, when her heart finally realises

That her greatest treasure sits lone writing her melodies, a bard sending inkstained kisses.

Presenting…The Star Of The Show

I’m still the same old fictile jester

Making an utter fool out of myself

Laughed at by cruel tomato pelters

A class-A entertainment from Hell

.

I’m still the same old freak show

Adorned with ugly crimson scars

A main dollar and fifty attraction

Your most fucked-up golden star

.

I’m still the same old string dummy

Ventriloquising for false attentions

Puppeting makes me appear funny

In this wooden world discrimination

.

I’m still the same old bad maestro

Orchestrating all my envoi failures

In a barrage of dissonant calypsos

Ending a cacophonic musical score

.

I’m still the same old painted harlot

With one foot stuck in sinking grave

Pity her, oh poor girl, I get that a lot

From snarling vultures I have staved

.

I’m still the same old burnt out actor

Standing in an empty five-foot stage

Masks placed to hide, deceive horrors

Tickets waved by a prop’s appendage

.

I’m still this delusionary world’s same old national idiot pertained

Wishing in vain to live just so I could wish vainly to die another day

Shame that you couldn’t see who I truly am past this velvet curtain

Too late for the encore—the theatre spotlight’s already closing up anyway.

Starless Night

From the Ancient Gods I stole a golden and silvery bow

And aimed for the pale lunarian orb with a lithium arrow

Hoping to fetch back from the sky even just a shred, a scintilla of twilight

.

Instead what I’ve pierced was Helios’s incandescent diadem

Glowing brightly in a tangerine-pink pulse, a crystalline gem

Its resplendence burning a hole through the darkness of my starless night.

This Affair Is Not For The Fainthearted

I wouldn’t front the scene if you paid me
I’m just the way that the doctor made me
On and on and on and on
Love is the red the rose on your coffin door
What’s life like, bleeding on the floor
The floor, the floor…

~*~

Your poets and criminals all dance in the same cell

Your mother’s eyes scream a silent prayer, can’t you tell?

You throttled the trigger, and emptied the hot lead chamber

And I’ll be your paper target, empty holes I’ll feel forever

.

They gave me ephedrine, fed me some tasteless medicine

Prescribed Abilify for the choir voices singing “Hallelujah!”

They dosed the offset, and I upped the convulsions

But don’t get a rosary yet, it’s just a side effect of prescriptions

.

You be my violent opposition, I’ll be a perfect mute

We’re perfect for each other, recriminated and abused

Hatred for this mad world, hearts exploding like a bomb

Let’s flare and glare, we’re neverwhere, drenched in bevy scum

.

So taste my butane skin, and load the ammunition

We’ll conflagrate our black souls into incineration

I’ll expunge your wasted blood, all the roses you bled

We’ll march the cathedral halls until we’re dead, we’re dead

.

Your apathy demands attention, alleviation you’ve aspired

You asked for a cure but all they gave are pills long expired

Hold on, hold on, maybe you’re just being badly neurotic

I must be going crazy, hell, why do I find that so romantic?

.

I’ll carry my mama on a gurney, into the deep forest since

Another contusion appears in my skin, a tally of all my sins

Shall we leave mother dearest to rot in the presence of wolves?

Should I be guilty? No, the law yells for me to absolve, absolve!

.

And we’ll ride the metal hansoms on this corporate fairy tale

But darling, I fear they’ll dissent, and you’ll be caught in the gale

Divas and starlets and mobs of girls dressed all meretricious

Men in suits, cornpone a-holes, faulty visions with strabismus

.

Come with me, we’ll infect all the sterile institutions in vile disparaging contritions

We’ll haunt the fallen graves in séances we frayed, won’t you accept my resignation

Don’t you worry, I’ll gladly be your widow honey, I’ll be your final lethal injection dose

This graceless romance is not for the squeamish, we all fall down in hell, and repose, repose!

~*~

So give me all your poison
And give me all your pills
And give me all your hopeless hearts
And make me ill
You’re running after something
That you’ll never kill
If this is what you want
Then fire at will…

Bitter Phantoms

Echoes of empty voices at midnight

Relics of a past long henceforth dissolved

Lay upon the thin cotton sheets in slight

Movement before thou’st ponders thus absolved

Her sweet music box voice, gently lilting

Like the tone of butterfly wings flapping

His tongue-in-cheek laugh, charismatic grin

Like the last smile of sunset’s rose chagrin

Fireflies float lazy, dot o’er vast fields

Mourned nightingale twitters, lost in the dark

Yet my saturnine heart I’ve chose to wield

A somnolent moonrise without a spark

Erstwhile must broken memories haunt thee?

Bitter phantoms’ lullabies hummed softly.
