Panem et Circences: Act Two

[SOFT MUSIC BOX INTERLUDE]

[INTERMISSION]

Hey, you seated comfortably? Got your bag of pork rinds and/or sandwich? GREAT! I need you to sing-a-long! It’s a sing-a-long, this next song. Even if you’re in your underwear, sing loud and proud! Now, if you don’t know the lyrics, just follow the bouncing pug head! It’ll show you the way! Now uh, don’t follow the red star. That will give you the wrong lyrics, and completely ignore the chihuahua head. Just the pug, all right? Then we’re good to go! Without any further ado…

[SECOND SET OF ACTS WALK IN]

[START OF ACT TWO]

~*~

[FOSSOR]

Bulbous nose, cream-smeared face

Misfit clothes, rag factory explosion

Some may laugh at me, but I’ll raise

Most are still terrified of this clown.

~*~

[EFFUGIUM]

Chaining me up in leaden shackles

Confined in the claustrophobic box

Or in a tank of water with manacles

I will always emerge free, unlocked.

~*~

[LIBRAMEN]

Swinging from bar to bar, ad infinity

Lithe somersets of graceful trickery

Catch me, take my hand, I will hold

Flying is fun for I know not to let go.

~*~

[MAGNUS]

Amaze, enthrall, smoke and mirrors

Entering phantasmagorical horrors

A pledge, turn, prestige, I’m the face

Of illusions, I never cease to amaze.

~*~

[MAGISTER]

Ultimate act of the ringmaster’s performance

Stovepipe hat tipping, welcome to the show

I’ve no oddities, yet the linchpin of the circus

Conducting exhibitions akin orchestra maestro.

~*~

[VALE]

Ladies and gentlemen, we hope you enjoyed the show

I wish we had more, but goodbye, it’s time for us to go

We hope you gripped your seats, cheered and laughed

And most of all, our bread and entertainment filled you and got you to clap.

[CRESCENDO SOUNDS OF LIVELY CIRCUS MUSIC]

[SPOTLIGHT SHINES]

[RINGMASTER WALKS IN AND BOWS]

[POLITE APPLAUSE]

[START OF ACT ONE]

~*~

[SALVE]

Rings of fire flaring higher illuminates death defying acts

Pretty odds and ends, and recherché entertainment akin

Strangest characters of colours and remarkable knacks

So sit back and relax ladies and gentlemen, we’re about to begin…

~*~

[CERNUUS]

Pull the red carpets under my feet

In your mischievous act of assault

But my dearest, I shall defy gravity

And impress you with a somersault.

~*~

[LEO DOMITOR]

I find myself in the company of lions

But they find themselves at my mercy

A crack of a whip, jaws unhinge upon

As I peer down their gullet in bravery.

~*~

[FUNAMBULUS]

Traipsing quaintly on a thin wire

A hundred feet fall underneath lies

Lest I lose balance and I fail dire

At least it gives me a chance to fly.

~*~

[PARMA]

Strapped and spinning on a target

Sharp daggers nearly pin me down

A sinew, skin will pierce and bleed

But I won’t flinch—risk makes it fun.

~*~

[VIR GLADIUM]

Instead of swallowing the sword

And following their twisted acts

I’ll spit it out my mutilated throat

Instead and I’ll use it to fight back.

Crashing Constellations

Don’t rain on my parade
It’s gonna glow in the dark
I like it better when you can’t keep warm
Don’t ruin a perfect thing, a perfect thing
The boy on the blue moon dreams of sun…

~*~

You have that applaudable talent

Of being able to drag me all down

When I begin to soar for the skies

And reach cloud nine daydreams

Yet you are still stranded on land

.

You have the amazing forethought

To pull my legs with heavier gravity

Whenever I’m reaching on for stars

And I accidentally take them along

Plucking a long string with my hold

.

You have unbelievable ignorance

Of asking why the long nights are

Cold and lightless, stark hopeless

And you’ve the nerve to complain

In most wretched, puerile manner

.

Still, you have a vexing capability

Of being able to claim innocence

As you buried the moon’s detritus

While standing in messy carnage

Of my body and the crashed stars.

Come To Life

when the

reality sets

and the rain

i can feel

.

on my skin

as i run in

a panic, a

dazed reel

.

yelling and

quivering, i

mumble and

choke thrills

.

it’s always

plagued me

every single

night i heel

.

a hole in my

teeth and a

throat lump

big as a hill

.

one foolish

mistake and

i failed their

test of skill

.

now its all

chasing me

my irrational

dark fears

.

attempting

to figure out

if this is just

all false will

.

or this isn’t

a dream and

that levee is

set up for kill

.

fragments fall

from my mouth

as i cease and i

make myself still

.

giving up on the

lost, as enamel

bones grind and

chilled dry tears

.

blood is flowing

warm as a heart

pain is setting in

thereon and here

.

and the focus, it

clears, and the

phantasm has

dispersed nil

.

my trepidation

grows and my

spinal fluids

freezes fills

.

and i know, oh

horror—! that

this is not just

another spill

.

everything is

corporeal; my

nightmare has

become real.

Somnium

I feel drowsy

I wish to sleep

But I hope not

For nightmares

I know I’ll keep

.

I feel so tired

I wish to sleep

But I hope not

For insomnia

Thus persists

.

I feel burdened

I wish to sleep

But I hope not

Anxieties, they

Fell and tipped

.

I feel loathing

I wish to sleep

But I hope not

I’m riddled with

A burying guilt

.

I feel change

I wish to sleep

But I hope not

I am gone too

Far in and deep

.

I feel like dying now

I wish to sleep then

But I sure hope not

For tomorrow I know

I will only wake again.

Double Edged Naïveté

Vile accusations

Work their way

On your sugary

Forked tongue

With your smile

That draws honey

And blowflies

You have sang

.

“Are we only here

To be the patch

In your negative

Energy heart—?

Are we only here

To fill the gap and

To fulfill our own

Playcast parts—?”

.

Punctuating each

Question with a

Blonde hair twirl

And accentuation

As if you didn’t

Stab a blade down

Straight into my

Fragile emotions

.

But I keep, I keep

My composure

And aplomb and

Grace and walk

Away from your

Evil and wicked

Sunny pink smile

Away from your talk

.

Now let me ask you

My own questions

Little girl, what’ve you

Done with your life?

Little girl, aren’t you

Too young now to be

Devouring nails and

Holding that knife?

.

Oh little girl, how are

Your inner demons

Satisfied at causing

Turmoil and chaos?

Oh little girl, is your

Soul a void of agony

Darkness cackling

With humanity’s loss?

.

Oh little girl, but why do

You wonder why you’re

Still repelling, charmed,

Why you’re still alone—?

Oh, little girl, I pity you

And you twisted games

Why don’t you just go off

Now and hop on home—?

Death Sentence

Dining with chronic depression

Is just like a prisoner eating his

Final meal before his execution

.
A gloom hangs heavier, feeling

Like the noose your neck will be

Choking; twisted stomach empty

.

Still, it’s more fulfilling being fed

When you know in your mind that

You’re close to being fucking dead.

Pluviophile

And if the skies be full of gloom
Let the rain then touch your feet
Let it soak and make you cool
Let the flowers have their feast…

~*~

Heroes sometimes

Come in trickles of

Soft soothing water

Celestial teardrops

On the windowpane

My calming mentor

Saving me from my

Demons, teaches of

Tranquility’s power

Taut nerves unravel

My heartbeat going

Softer, even slower

As a wind whistles

Its merry melodies

Synesthetic colour

And chilly puddles

Bloom rainbows in

Grey skies fervour

I taste the reveries

Petrichor comforts

And my eyes flutter

My soul transcends

I rest my tired bones

On this rainy weather.

~*~

Oh, oh, oh
Little raindrop
Listen to the rain…

Viva La Liberación

Arrogant invigoration of the man who held the nation

Aids, abets his information down the line of desperation

Holds the skies of bluest azure, paler than his sickly pallor

Wasting into silent terror, desecrate the florid colours

Forbid the likes of perversement, thought he ought to make a statement

But his lucky stars were all spent, can’t even pay for his own rent

And that man and his ambitions foolishly went for sedition

Lines of war and pure corruption, blame the mass for veneration

One can take the greed no longer, and their army’s growing stronger

Firestorms burning on the water, chaos ruling for the better

Pedestals fall for injustice, sycophants crawl for their service

Triumph sounds a trumpet solstice, as they take back what wasn’t his

Veterans of civilian spars admiring victory from afar

As the flag upright ceased the war and smiles arose from bloodied scars

Arrogant false desperation for the man who broke the nation

Yet fear not his litigation, for we hold our liberation.

Agony and the Man

Ah, the inscrutability of agony

Greeting you like an old friend

The domain of unwanted pain

For your attention it contends

.

Ripped by shades of monochromes

Like ancient pages of a fragile tome

Insalubrious tales of a ghastly mend

Unto which your life dares to depend

.

Mister Razor incising like the devil

Ceasing flows of red blood vessels

Lost hope to which you relied upon

Darkness, it comes to take you son

.

Ah, the inevitability of agony

Greeting you like familiar sin

The stains of welcoming pain

Bothers not—for it always wins.
