counting stars and other mayhem

“Stars awake
But we can’t see them out
So why pretend?”

~*~

come count the stars with me

for i am far too afraid to see

how much darkness there is

drinking in light on a chalice

.

reflect the moon in your eyes

like the final breath of paradise

i’ll never be able to take another

so i hold it in like i’m underwater

.

conjure another whimsical dream

where everything is more than it seems

and black is white, and grey is none

i’ll be falling west like the tenebrous sun

.

so come and count the stars with me

i wouldn’t be afraid anymore once i see

that in the consuming darkness, there is

a star glowing next to me, bathing me in universes.

new dawn fades

A change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
A chance to watch, admire the distance
Still occupied, though you forget
Different colours, different shades…

~*~

hear me twisting

the young stars into

a virgin dawn

as the birthing moon

collides the space

the crying distance

of amalgamated scarlet

and charcoal ember

is faded into lavender

by the midnight sky

so remember me

as the sun sends hearts

another drink of sunshine

kissing freckled flesh

for i’ll be twisting

the orphan stars

into a parvenu dawn

and i shall be reposing.

~*~

It was me, waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me, seeing me this time
Hoping for something else.

Seasons in Retrograde

Come at me with everything you’ve got
Burst into flames, s
cream in the dark
I’m gonna light up this place
And die in beautiful stars tonight…

~*~

They said it wouldn’t be easy

And being homesick is better than being alone

As the moon burst into flames

I ended up igniting under my coalescing bones

.

Throw me behind the darkness

And I’ll learn to breathe without the light

As the blade swings closer to me

Love, I’ll hold it back for you, and I’ll fight

.

I’m dizzy from wreaking all this havoc

Sober as the ashes melted in my numbing lips

Counting seconds until these stars drop

I’ll catch them like a nightmare, take and keep

.

Because everything looks even more beautiful

When I’m submerged a thousand feet deep in waters

And the undersea glow is a vicious accentuation

To those pale azure eyes that speak of blank aspiration

.

For they won’t come to take you back

And being homesick is better than being alone

As the midnight sun froze into winter

I ended up embracing the perennial cold for my own.

~*~

(What do you do when you’re out of time?)
(Where do you go when they’re right outside?)
(And how do you scream when there’s no one left around?)
I’m gonna light up this place (No one left around?)
And I will be the only light, I’ll be the only light.

love must be such a strange thing

Believe that I’m in heaven
And that you’ll go there as well
When our bodies touch the earth again
When the people cry
‘Cause they’ll believe that we have left
Oh, our souls will touch the sky again
And they will glow, they will glow
‘Cause they’ll be home…

~*~

and darling, i love

your bruised wings and celestial voice

stirring up the empty wind

with soft static noise

.

and darling, i love

your fading chocolate eyes

melting into sun’s golden horizons

in stars of sugar and spice

.

and darling, i love

your imperfect revelations

more immaculate than a stippled saint’s

breathtaking at every revolution

.

and darling, i love

your sentimental mind’s muse

gossamer creeds and caustic exhilaration

that i wouldn’t ever dare to refuse

.

and darling, i love

your unique ability to make me feel

beating my solipsistic heart back

into a lukewarm pulse tangible and real

.

and darling, i love

the clemency of your pensive soul

and how it never even hurts me

when into its beckoning embrace i fall

.

and darling, i love

even though it’s a steadfast ache

until the night my eidetic serenity withers

i’ll dream of you when i’m awake

.

and darling, i love

you.

~*~

If I can’t have you
That’s okay with me
Just as long as I know
That you’re living free…

Senbazuru

Complexities feel like japanese origami cranes

Floating solemnly past silhouetted windowsills

Crumpled papyrus beaks inching their way into

.

The fragile throats that dared not utter a scream

And again I find myself folding a hundred cranes

Wishing for a thousand to bleed into my dreams.

Headlines & White Wine

I could never tell what’s on my mind when you are inside it

Lenient limerence against the lashing lacerations, on repeat

Over a cypress tree you painted in grey and told me to climb

Vagabond heart hiding behind a million branches, I can’t find

Elusive footprints you left in the virgin snow sing a soft melody

Defying the limbo I’m trapped in, fugue nightmare of my vanity

Your cinder block notes and forte strings cut me to the very bone

Orchard chasing sunset, counting sparrows until we end up alone

Undersea glow that drowned my eyes in a steady gurgling cadence

Victory you’ve held apart from me, my darling southern enchantress

I see now the sky you perceived, the suicide reds and sweetest scarlet

Clairvoyance of the words you tucked in my head, I won’t ever lose it.

Butterfly Stitches

Give me a mouthful
And leave me nothing now
So chalk it up to the drone
Hack it out, wear it down
Where will you go when
You’re feeling blue?

~*~

i may never have the courage to do

the perseverance and hope that you pursue

like making snow castles out of icicles

and twisting lemonade out of bland honeydew

i cross my fingers for fibs not faith, it’s true

and my constellations are merely apologetic construes

but when i pretend there’s a horizon past the ceiling

i close my eyes and watch you taste the sun whilst tiptoeing

for you dance those rhythms that i’ve always faked

and fog the glass over your scribbled breathing mistakes

sew the thread past your heart to fix rivets and abate

shine your smile and sharpen your teeth when you awake

an incandescent perspective in this dismal existence

you may be hurt but you strive and fathom to make sense

dear, i may never have the courage to mend like you do

but your butterfly eyes encouraged me to try being brand new.

~*~

So save me and tell me how
it all got so doubtful
Leave me nothing now
Back on the old road
You’re wishing you’ll wind me down…

Waltz of the Midnight Bloom

Glacial advocacies amongst asphodel tides—

Such a sight!

.

Where would midnight be if not for the

Crescent waltz of the moon,

.

Spiraling into untoward lunacy;

Consumed with arrogant throes of

.

Calla flesh, blossoming in your sleep?

Taste my saline melancholy

.

And erase the

Starred question marks in my lungs…

.

Where shall you seek me?

My forgetful heaven persists

.

To thrive in amnesiac rhapsodies,

Euphonies of pink

.

Molting off your tongue like feathers

On a weeping angel on clouds of

.

Your descending grasp;

Gentle yet merciless in my soul.

.

Your quiet breaths

Drenching my bones, my every whim,

.

I feel you on my skin, my hair, my lips; your

Words of floral adornment

.

Assaulting me. Your falling meteors

Touch my eyes, drowsy sparks fading into neon

.

Again—

Melting me into neverwhere.

Thirteen Minutes Of Scattered Reflection

1.

Insipid thoughts

None of them so much

As to be considered

Noteworthy—

I’m going to write

It down anyway.

2.

Dawn falling in fragments

Chasing the nightmares

Back into my drowsy head.

3.

Classic novellas that

End with a kiss

Rather silly, when

The whole point

Of the story

Is missed.

4.

Am I still your delight?

The pinnacle that throws

Blossoms under your sheets

And makes you smile with

Atrocious gesticulations?

Am I still your late nights,

Or has insomnia coquetted you?

5.

The silver snow stirred

In an autumn pantomime

My patio steps are slippery

A blackbird hums distant.

6.

I promised I shan’t admit such a thing, but…

The songs they sing feel like home.

8.

The irretrievable memories

Of you laughing drunkenly

Under sodium streetlights

As I kept the secret of time

Away so we wouldn’t have

To depart so suddenly now.

9.

Realm infected shadows slip under cedar oak limb

And they painted solemn lips a disorienting black

Vagabond lilies predicating the spirits of escapism

And again the sober hostages soused away the rest

With thrushes, silhouettes and asphodel disembark.

10.

The magnet polaroids

Stuck to the refrigerator door

Showing a false smile under layers of

Clown-vicious makeup

In a bad party for the ageless

…How disgusting.

11.

The pedestrians of Ridgemont High

Are caught in fast times

And the brake halt threw their heads

Out of the car window.

12.

My pulse is dancing in colourful circles

Won’t you try to catch its flightless beat?

13.

Calla-lilies serenade the moon

Icicles piercing icteric sunshine

Stars made for butterfly cocoon

Frog grass stepping, undefined

A diary written in brushstrokes

Of one artless individual’s chest

My ink is bleeding out and soak

I’ll tear out the pages of the rest.
