Wedding Hells

A quiet hush descends

From the church halls and it wends

And it wends, and it wends

And it bends beyond the bells

Of the bells with their clamour

And the clangour and their fervour

Like the fervour of the crux

Hid in every sacred pews

But the pews with their kneeling

And their ever-silent praying

It grows louder—oh what terror!

Oh, what draconian, pure horror!

For the altar—yes—the altar

Though as empty as can be

‘Tis not as empty as should be

Can you see? Can you see?

Can you see the weeping plea?

Oh, the ever-crying plea

Falling free, calling me—

Calling out beyond the sea

Calling out so helplessly

Begging me, can you see?

Can you see the melancholy—

Of my forgotten bride-to-be?

Ephemeral Bride

I am a million pieces of the sky
I found a way to be alone
I’m gonna wait until you want me
Until you finally decide to go home…

~*~

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Wedding-white veil torn at the seams

Diamond gleam and diamond ring

Purple finger and purple serene

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Efflorescence like an imperial queen

Crystalline wine and crystalline skin

Scarlet bouquet and scarlet lips

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Velvet tapestry fair, thy curtain skin

Sapphire eyes and sapphire crown

Blushing cheeks and blushing gown

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Mine sweet erudition adorned within

Emerald fragrance and emerald tongue

Golden church bells and golden lungs

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

The chapel doors open, the march begins

Obsidian promises and obsidian “I do”

Before grey eyes open up to a greyer gloom.

~*~

I saw her smiling from the top of the world
I saw her sleeping on, amazing I know
If you lower, lower, lower me down
You lower me clearly, so come and lower me…

The Blessed and the Blasphemy

The world’s not fucking built of saints

Only gilded tongues and corrupted eyes

The infected castigating the fellow taint

And floral-laden verses dripping of lies

.

Persecution is just another word for purge

Heaven’s open, but first we have to grovel

If I wanted sanctimony, I would go to church

Instead of listening to this tormenting drivel

.

If they listen to prayer, then I pray that you’ll stop

Holy shit, this pious virtuousness makes me laugh

I don’t mean to be crass, but these words mean bullshit

We don’t have time for compelling, get damn used to it

.

I’m not an atheist, but I just don’t believe in playing god

And if they’re here to preach some more, then hell can take me back

I don’t condemn beliefs, just don’t force it down my throat

Because I won’t enjoy the taste—I will just bring it back up and choke.

There’s Such a Word as Damnation, and I’ll be Your Role Model

Well you can hide a lot about yourself
But honey, what’re you gonna do?
And you can sleep in a coffin
But the past ain’t through with you
‘Cause we are all a bunch of liars
Tell me, baby, who do you wanna be?
And we are all about to sell it
‘Cause it’s tragic with a capital T…

~*~

We both promised, we both promised that we’ll be dead together

And watch the showering fireworks kill the sky at the end of November

We swallowed bullets in turn, hoping to spit them into diamonds

But we laughed too hard, spilled cheap champagne, choked on garrotes

.

We didn’t want, we didn’t want to hold hands all the way to suicide

We just wanted more than an automatic answering machine before we died

I disputed the grave, lights in nave, one more nightmare for you to save

But I walked away from the mausoleum doors, leaving all that I gave

.

So would you, so would you consider therapy even for a moment

For neurotics and martyrs and vagrants thinking they’re fucking heaven-sent

And dead Mary, quite contrary, I’ll be your lifeless little boy blue

Herding my sheep towards starved wolves, as if innocence was something new

.

And you’ll chant, and I chant, na na na now’s the time for all the killjoys

To wash the blood off their broken noses and scream until they break their voice

Collecting melancholy in notes of g and eyeliner verses of the apocalypse

Bruises and lipsticks melting together into a dangerous warpaint on their cheeks

.

One more time, one more time, let me listen to the prayers of the damned

I’m just another corpse decaying on the pew, preaching for predicament demand

And you’re the pastor that opened the stained chapel windows to let me in

We’re friends of hell, and I wish you well, thank you for welcoming all of my sins.

~*~

‘Cause we all wanna party when the funeral ends
And we all get together when we bury our friends
It’s been eight bitter years since I’ve been seeing your face
And you’re walking away, and I will die in this place…

I Put the “Fun” in Funeral

Get down, get low, turn the radio on
You’re invited to a graveyard party tonight
Punk is heavy and the moon is full
Dead never looked to beautiful…

~*~

Don’t expect me back next morning

I’ll be busy shopping for body bags

And tagging my own fresh cadaver

The grave won’t dig itself, you’ll see

.

Don’t expect my visit this afternoon

I’ll be sniffing aroma formaldehyde

And letting my tailor sew me a suit

I’m composing my eulogy, obituary

.

Don’t expect me to sit on for supper

I’ll have a chat with the undertaker

Updated my last will and testament

For the church pastor’s wake litany

.

Don’t expect me to stay for tonight

I’m picking the colour of my coffin

And planning funeral arrangements

But you’re welcome to come with me

.

Don’t expect me to be here for forever

And stick around for this deadbeat life

Baby, don’t you see? You’re the reason

Why I’m throwing this party, honestly.

~*~

What happened to the life of the party?
I’m not kidding, we’re all dead
Now everybody’s passed out, face down
The sun is rising and the fire has faded away
And even if we have to move it to the next town

We’re gonna rock it, this week anyway.
D-I-E…we won’t be dead forever!

The Decapitated Queen of La Brea and the Boy of her Nightmares (Hail, Suicide!)

I said, we’ll drown ourselves in misery tonight
White lies, you’ve worn out all your dancing shoes this time
Just give us war-worn lipstick, blood, and purifying flame
These eyes have had too much to drink again tonight
Black skies, we’ll douse ourselves in high explosive light
Just give us war-worn, I’ve been calling you all week for my shotgun!

~*~

I love your lips, and the way they bleed

Like dying throes of cold water orchids

Drive my heart like a spike in the ground

Along with the dead, it’ll be safe and sound

.

And the moon tears the marrow of our bones

And the teeth in our necks are razor stones

So take me to a church, and get me a doctor

The coursing venom won’t last any longer

.

I wear my pills on a bloodstained sleeve

If there’s a heaven waiting, I don’t believe

You hid a revolver gun on my ancient bible

Lock and load, the scripture spells out trouble

.

And the mark of the serpent is burning me

Nazareth is damned, call me Black Mary

Carve the tattoo for the switchblade saints

Die by the cross of the apparition’s taint

.

The séance under the spotlight is holding on

Bang bang! Goes the monitor, he’s fucking gone!

Emergency alert, the red lights flash and spin

This institutional madness is fucking caving in!

.

Horror in my decayed lungs, glass in my falling nails

Banging against the coffin door rhythmic, hail, hail!

Bathe me in the arcane fires of an everlasting hell

And pray to the hurricane rain for another dry spell

.

Oh baby, the sun won’t be purified by your lipgloss

But if you tried to save us, it’s a threatening cause

Beat me fucked and correct the date on my grave

Tonight we’ll be insufferable, disgusted at the nave

.

I’m damned and broken, the saviour of the anthem

Decimating heroes with lobotomies and brain stems

This is a wedding party, bridegroom toasting cyanide

Marry to the end of the health and your death, I lied

.

And if they think you’ll be holding (they thought wrong)

Pick up the signs, make up your mind (you ain’t so gorgeous now)

You may be in exile, but don’t forget to smile (shine the light)

Drop the guns and have some fun, we’re stuck here a while (shit!)

.

So hear me out, my divine angel, dear graceless and corpse-fair

The blood’s drying in my mourning Sunday clothes I shall never wear

But the way my hands are shaking, I will never have a clean shot

So just hold it as tight as you can, and pull the trigger with all you’ve got.

~*~

Pick up the phone! Pick up the phone, fucker
I wanna see what your insides look like
(I wanna see what your insides look like)

I bet you’re not fucking pretty on the inside (not so pretty)
I wanna see what your insides look like (not so pretty baby)
I wanna see ’em (not so)…

Damned If I Do

And you’re the galantine
Cold and alone, it suits you well
Won’t find me perching here again
May your feet serve you well
And the rest be sent to Hell…

~*~

Curdled hearts

Taste like bitter blood

And faith in abandonment

Of a fantasia god

Celebrating cemeteries

Clutching wooden rosaries

Rose petals falling

Pews nearly splintering

Hymns of an invisible choir

A communion for liars

Cross the sacred threshold

Waters holy and gold

Under smoky haze of incense

Possessed of clear sense

The clergies light the fires

Ancient bells ring deep and dire

As impostors and martyrs

Write denials of vows

Announce the wedding march

The torment begins now

Damned if I don’t, damned if I do

Stained-glass cathedral virtue

Touch the ash on my skin

Atoning for my vices and sins

As the sermon thus decrees

All brought to their knees

Tight knots tied around our necks

Whisper amen to this wreck

Save me now, say that I’m wrong

That this is unforgivable desecration

Reviled under a lethal hilt

Speak now or forever hold guilt

Rings are buried, audience applauds

This matrimonial anarchy

Desperate for serpentine flood

Adam’s final attempt to flee

Preachers hiding the sacristans

Under glimpses of pure veil and rectories

To the altar I shall drag you away

For a fractured devil’s kiss.

Fate will play us out
With a song of pure romance
Stomp your feet and clap your hands…

Hymn For Annabelle

This night, walk the dead in a solitary style
And crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates
Way down, mark the grave
Where the search lights find us
Drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom floor…

~*~

Can you hear that loud sound intruding your softest elegy, Annabelle?

Melody against harsh thunderous clanging of the old church bells?

Sonorous sound resonating, disconsolate and mournful to the bone

As they carry your pastel withered body away in your chiseled pink coffin stone

.

You knelt down to me now, crying in a shadowy church confessional

Annabelle, love, what sins and vices have you often lusted for now?

Whisper all of them to me clearly, for your divine transcendental

Heaven, hell, purgatory, which will your tainted soul venture to allow?

.

Annabelle, I have always thought you were the purest of white

Annie dear, synonymous to a blooming water lily, delicate and bright

But somehow that efflorescent plant has now wilted and drowned

Filling its decaying brown lungs with the cold water that surrounds

.

Annabelle, giggling excitedly with your group of friends at the bayside pier

Cotton candy by your lips, your celestial dress hiding your dessicated heart

Pleasant demeanour fading as you stood waiting, your fluttering ebony hair

Staring down into the murky waters, how badly did you wish to jump?

.

Annabelle, would you like to relay your last prayers in your wake, vis-à-vis?

Hands clasped together, in a pew, staring at your own funeral service

Fallen rose wreaths and fake red tears, can you handle the melancholy?

Sordid priests and frowning nuns, as I mumble my heartless bland eulogy

.

Carafes of bloody wines toasted, canticles in a morbidly-joyous anthem

Ostentatious display of sorrow, grotesque streamers on a mausoleum

You were a simple girl, Annabelle, but they wanted your lifeline celebrated

But confetti and balloons and the static noise is what you always have hated

.

Annabelle, there’s a budding flower flourishing inside your twisted womb

But you don’t wish for it to blossom so you chose the sanctity of the tomb

They would shame you, they’d disgrace you, throw you down the pit of deceit

You thought it better to have a fabulous death than a life of wretched defeat

.

A parade of endless black and grey, silk dripping and umbrellas raised up plain

As the dislimned anguished skies pulled a fresh sheath of sobbing rain

A grave dug fresh, a grey cracked tombstone, a short epitaph inscribed

“To the beautiful girl who still radiates hope and inspires even as she died”

.

A wandering soul with a grave mistake, my perfect, sweetest, bleeding Annabelle

Society has wept and grieved this day, for such a innocent lovely girl has fell

Annabelle, your teasing scarlet lips are forever stained in a permanent smile

Won’t you tell me one last secret to keep, or will you hide them all for eternity’s while?

~*~

I miss you, I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss
That made it so hard

Way down, way down…
