high beams

the traffic lights

look far different

.

when i walk alone

a tempting waltz

.

dandelions burn

beneath my knees

.

and the crosswalk

blurs my eyesight

.

heading back home to

where grief tastes okay

.

but if the sunset asked

me to leave with it now

.

to paint my hands with

orange and abendrot

.

like stars and headlamps

shimmering before me

.

and all the colours i lost

in my travels around town

.

would i answer quickly

would i simply tell it yes?

b.r.a.i.l.l.e.

i am with the wind.

and the exhilarating thrill

envelops every sense,

taking my aching bones,

my hour-old bruises,

my smiling chipped teeth,

my angry brown scabs,

and lulling them back to rest,

making the pain seem like

just another pastel dream.

everyone’s just a myriad blur,

a riot of ceaseless colours

all rushing past me as

wheels bite gravel and spins

me to a whole new revolution

of a different planet in a

different existence where all

those bad memories don’t exist,

only i, and the sweat and rain

soaking the angel wings on

my back; feeling gravity

and friction and momentum

and all those ethereal forces of

the universe ensconced between

my scuffed red sneakers.

it’s all tricks and treats,

and it doesn’t matter if i fall

and eat concrete a thousand times

trying to do the same thing over again;

it doesn’t matter if i go home

always with new holes all over my

favourite jeans and jumpers

every single damn time;

it doesn’t matter if i’m being

chased away by the people who

think it’s a vagrant’s crime…

because the past and future tense

doesn’t matter when freedom

is felt right here, right now,

with me and my ride,

and i am the wind.

One Of Them (Cass & Effect)

I see it in her eyes, that girl is lost
But Cassie if you stay with me, I’ll never stop
Cassie’s been waiting too long
The drug in her veins is too strong
She fell in love with the medicine she’s on
Yeah in a matter of minutes her mind’s gone…

~*~

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

You don’t dance in your dress and do ballet twirls

You dye your hair green and wear orange shoes

You’ve got nothing to live for and everything to lose

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

You don’t wish for princes or a dumb fairy tale world

You cut off dragon heads with your silver blade

And the blood is drank in a midnight pub promenade

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

They spill acid on their tongue until their vision curls

You only swallow tablets to avoid feeling dizzy

When your heart feels wrong and your brain feels frisky

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

They’ve got their life together, kiss and tell like bores

Picking out the sweetest bees and tasting the sweetest honey

Oh, aren’t you sick of that bitter mouthwash, honestly?

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

You don’t need saving from another magical curse

They call you cynical, but being realistic’s not a crime

And those bedless boys don’t leave you tongue-tied

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

You got a pistol for a lipstick and a deadshot hearse

You’re never available, you’re never there for the asking

You scare them all off ‘cause you’re “too interesting”

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

Your fingers are broken, but the last time makes the first

How normal, how nice, just a suburban heist in pink stunning

You’ll be the cat burglar melting down faux promise rings

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

While they sob about their stories, you scream at yours

Pluck at the metal strings ‘till your calloused fingers tear

You’ve got a pain in your voice that no one wants to hear

.

Cassie you’re not like the other girls

You don’t get yourself right, wear those scars for the worse

Your mouth’s twisted in a sneer, you’re a bitch in cold dressing

You fight without the bruises and being alone is kind of your thing

.

Cassie you’re not like, and you’ll never be like the other girls

Your mama raised you like that, but hell ‘cause it didn’t do you any good

You’re not stupid and lovely and crazy and flowery like those other girls

But Cassie, don’t you ever wish sometimes that you don’t feel so jealous?

~*~

She left a dent in my heart as she drove
With her car into my life, though
She tilt her head to the side, what a night, yeah
And Cassie, don’t you overdose.

Friend & Foe

If you could keep the right commitment
(Nothing gets in, in the way)
And you put all your hope within it
(It’s what you like, what it is)
I saw dysfunction in your rhythm
Life just slips away
Passed right through the first incision
Everything we are…

~*~

We have come and gone our own separate ways

And either one has stopped giving relentless chase

‘Cause I’m stuck in myself and I want it to last

And you’re borne to the future, discarding your past

.

I always thought that we shared the same blood

And nothing can change the contrasting connection we had

But I snipped on the veins and you bled them out dry

There was a mutual assent that it was best to let things die

.

You proclaim we’re such different people, you and me

I’ve constantly denied the facts presented somehow

I thought it was disturbing, the blurring similarities we had

But there’s a clear line—a parallel distinction in good and bad

.

You grew on such viridian memories and attempted to thrive

While I’m fine barely breathing just to keep myself alive

We shared these identical interests, but never the same passions

And have diverted circumstances in dealing with emotions

.

I admit, it’s rather strange for me to see things changing

People weren’t who they were, they don’t like the same things

I’m uncomfortable to alter what I have always known

But I know that in this life, the only thing I can do is go on

.

I know we’re not the same after all, and no one is to blame

I still look after this companionship, and I still respect your name

For certain, we’re both fucked-up, though still trying to change

We may have gone our separate ways, but it won’t sever the bond we made.

~*~

I’ll wait till you’ve forgotten
(I’ve seen the way you are)
If you get past the worst of that you know
(Look what good that did)
Fall along, fall along, innocent, innocent
Infractions that we know (Infractions that we know)
Quietly, quietly, everyone, everyone
Just as the summer ends…

The Buildup Before The Downfall

This is your night with arms wide open
I’m the option you shouldn’t have chosen
Scared of the dark, the door’s wide open
This is the night you’ll regret in the morning…

~*~

Don’t you feel bad for choosing the option

That left me feeling good only out in the open

I’d bare my marred soul and read the signs

But you won’t talk back, our glances won’t align

I swear, I’m damned, do you regret me now?

Loverboy don’t play a fun game without any toys

I’d call your bluff and I’ll cash in all my friends

And still I’m short-selling, I couldn’t see this end

My hands will wander, and my eyes will travel

But you’re closer to heaven than I am to hell

Don’t pass my lips like obscenities, this is the first

You said you were an ocean, but why did I die of thirst?

I look over the chip over my shoulder to greet unrest

The choice I took was never mine, and you were my best

With the lies that surround me now, you tore me down

To build me back up into something completely different of your own.

~*~

Loverboy, you play those hearts like toys
Don’t you feel bad, don’t you feel bad, feel bad for them?
Given the choice, would you do it again?
Of course I would, of course I should
Well, I’m your friend, friend with benefits…

Two Different Scenarios

War and peace

Monochrome

Opposites

Juxtaposed

.

War goes on

Halos dim

Angels fall

Demons win

.

Peace ensues

Hearts triumph

Souls kindled

That’s enough.

Strawberry Girls and Cherry-Picked Lies

I met a girl who never looked so alone
Like sugar water in your mouth lukewarm
She tied a cherry stem for me with her tongue
We fell in love and now we’re both alone
‘Cause I don’t need any more friends
And another kiss like fire on a pavement
We’ll burn it down to the end…

~*~

Strawberry girls are performing with shortcake hearts

And I just love the way that they break and tear me apart

I’m drinking poisoned margaritas for my last phone call

Drowned under the covers and on the linen blankets I fall

.

You think it’s high time for me to say goodbye and a lost eulogy

But not yet darling, ’cause I specialise in the art of disasterology

Garlands and wreaths and we sink laughing in softest lavender

Just like the bruises we kissed away and the lines we severed

.

I was always coughing madly under the influence of grey fumes

Drinking out of cholera water, wounding myself on rusted looms

But who will be the grenade that will pull that rusted stubborn pin

I’m tainted, sordid, insalubrious, love, won’t you make me clean?

.

As cold rain is beating down against the rolled-up car windows

We make believe with dulling thorns and hazy roses for hours

Thick blood starts to flow, like passing red buses on morrows

My sweetest strawberry girl, who ever knew that you were so sour?

.

Your shivering cups of coffee scald hotly more than kerosene

You’re so out of style, but you just love being so fucking mean

The boys in the club are youth raged and have new ideas stupid

And the tepid beer, like the summer air, is tasteless and arid

.

Your blossoming skin has always been flushed pink with spite

The chemicals in your brain keep your soul dissolving enough

Sitting high on an ivory pedestal, like flowers woven on a kite

You’re a bubblegum cheerleader, but chewed up and popped

.

Colliding like a suspended heart alongside patient bowling pins

Why did you adore all the mermaids if you can’t even swim?

I’ll pray to the devils and hope that they wouldn’t go and follow

For everyone took a bite out of your leftovers until you were hollow

.

The sunset is missing, hiding under hills and decaying cemeteries

Let’s bury the past under groves of pearl and burn it with gasoline

If only you’ll stop serving yourself impaled on a silver plate, please

Leave that to the cherry girls, blushing burlesque and incarnadine

.

The bullets from your back are yours to keep in bitterest memory

That golden necklace is choking you, won’t you take it off for me

Drunk on saccharine, bloated on pesticide, intoxicated in perfume

I’ll take your hand and hold it tight, strawberry girl, we’ll be home soon

.

Let’s dance a waltz and let the grass brush our ankles in diamond fields

Underwater ballerina, an angel on cloud filaments as you hum and sing

Where’s the misery, all the agony, those vultures we didn’t even need?

You’re a strawberry queen in a castle, and I’ll be your own vineyard king

.

A million heartbeats thumping quickly under the abysmal ocean floor

Making whirlpool tantrums and tidal waves crash against the shore

Lying on picnic blankets, don’t you love the way the moon looks tonight?

Scintillating mischievously as it whispers its secrets to gold starlight

.

Strawberry girl, it’s a withering world, so why don’t you come and disappear with me?

We could be resting, alone in our peaceful hell while that chaotic paradise goes crazy

Let’s fake our own deaths here and let the wolves chase, let the weeping foxes fight

Let’s die under the stars, my strawberry girl, don’t you think they look so beautiful tonight?

~*~

‘Cause this is a wasteland, my only retreat
With heaven above you, there’s hell over me
You said what about us? Well, what about me?
Hang from the gallows, asleep in the rain
‘Cause this is a wasteland, my only retreat…
