Straggler of the Pack

When we are gone, who will keep up the garden?
Like a mother calling her boy, I am, I am so unsafe
But she can’t do it alone
But there’s nothing stronger than her prayers
Nothing stronger than the smell of reds
My father’s reds…

~*~

The run is a false pretence thrill, and vigilant shadows chased back

Got a rotting dog’s canines stuck deep between both cramping calves

Still, their furious barks resonated from every corner of the forest gloom

Attempting to escape from a burning house, and evening came too soon

.

The chase was always in circles, between a mangy maw and a mangled tail

Open wounds stung from the vicious sweat, the salt will nourish only for a day

Still, rabid growls swallowed back the purple tongue which licked at the venom

The fire had long been snuffed, yet disobedient paws still prayed to be the victim.

~*~

Everyone cares, every eye
Carelessly tiptoes around you
Watching you, they’ll wear black ties
And as they applaud, I’ll count claps
Like the fig tree the master cursed
The arms that gave us life take so much more.

bad dog

he runs his mouth

without tiring, but

he still gets nowhere—

.

for he’s only going

around in circles, and

chasing his own tail.

Dog Day Afternoon

After classes, for two hours and a half

Mind’s numb from static words and archaic lessons

Afternoons flourish, a lazy inner laugh

Stretch with the palm trees, kick up grass and stones

.

By the steps of humanities, a sepia snapshot

Of passersby and busy souls and stray pets that roam

Cars going nowhere, blue skies that time forgot

Weariness that dissipates, shaken off from rusted bones

.

After class, of a day’s worth and a half

Thoughts dazed with melancholy, still wandering alone

Afternoons effloresce, a warmer fullstop

Walk with the dusty sunset, I guess it’s time to go home.

Plastic Puppy

i toss a toy

quite randomly

to mollify you

amusement spreads

like wildfire

on your chubby face

“dog”, you utter

quite unsurely,

face crinkled in confusion

i smile and say “yes,

dog goes ruff!”

emitting a growl

and the best bark i can do

at the last part

you laugh;

cheery sound breaking

my internal bedlam

repeat “dog!”

and hold the toy

closer to my face

where i could kiss it

in the same way you did

and so i do;

and then i clamp it

in between my mouth

and attack you with tickles

barking and laughing

as you squeal in delight

and the plastic toy

falls away

as we both fall over

in silliness and happiness

on that pastel pink

adorable owl-spangled bed

giggling widely…

this is a nonsensical tale

no one wants to bite

but we are truly barking mad,

aren’t we, child?

Givin’ the Dog a Bone

You pant for the attentional sake

Growl whenever you get provoked

Hide your face in shame of mistakes

And act adorable when you’re broke

You sit and stay, to get your way

If life was a frisbee, you’d catch it all

You could be beastly when you play

And territorial with your toys’ calls

You mark your spot by pissing…

People off until they simply leave

For the world is your fire hydrant

And its humans, the subjects to give

You acted as if it was yours alone

So now you’re slobbering all over it

Like it’s the juiciest of a steak bone

But then again, you can be such a bitch.

Midnight Clear

Sitting by the chartreuse grass, basking on this marvellous midnight clear

With only my little furry canine companion to keep me close and dear

Curiously he sniffles at the soft tawny dirt, lost in a discovering game of trust

As I revel hazily at the ebony tapestry sky, lost in bright showers of fiery stardust

Crickets chirping tranquil lullabies, the cool wind but a smooth whimsy refrain

The dulcet merry tune of harmonic hearts, consonance ringing clear and plain

The calm prelude of peacefulness after a harried day of melancholic exposure

A rare serene night where everything is halcyon and right, nothing more I could ever ask for.
