Neurotic

Sadness is sadness

Until it’s reversed

Frowns turn to madness

And smiles perverse

.

Writing is writing

Until a mind notices

Words turn to endings

And stories to sense.

¿ e m o t i o n s ?

i’m happy

like a ukulele tune

twinkly revelry

all the way to the moon

.

i’m depressed

like a relentless failure

finishing touches

of doubts and unsure

.

i’m excited

like a coffee adrenaline

over the clouds

and no artistry for serene

.

i’m anxious

like a falling red hole

no end seen

nor the starlight it stole

.

i’m this and that

i’m both and none

i’m blues and golds

i’m night and sun

.

i don’t know what

to think and feel

i’m still confused

on dream and real

.

so drag me higher

and fly me down

until i figure out

if i’ll smile or frown.

Janus and the Beast

There’s nothing like a trail of blood
To find your way back home
And nothing feels as cold inside as heaven down below
I’ve been lost and never found, afraid
To speak my truth out loud
With empty hands I came into this world
And I’ll leave just the same…

~*~

Blood smeared on the walls

Like the smiles on your two faces

Taunting a mechanical reaction

Of storms and clever rhetorics

That died of natural causes

.

But the truth is far from you

This miserable incineration

Of my outer demons breaking

Leaving the scar issues making

News all over my gossipy skin

.

And my migraine’s headlining

Medications inventing versions

Of the story no one wants to tell

Stigmata leaving sensible stigmas

Bitter bidding angels wish you hell

.

Blood smeared all over the walls

Like the frowns on your two faces

Making a cruel definition agreed

Of cyclones and asinine comebacks

That revived the primal nature in me.

~*~

Death, you cannot take me, you’ve tried and failed before
With everything so deafening, each breath worth fighting for
I refuse to be your casualty ’cause pain has its reward
No longer trapped in agony, you cannot take me, I survive the storm…

The Smiling Man

And I just can’t look, it’s killing me and taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Turning through sick lullabies, choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay, destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes, ’cause I’m Mr. Brightside…

~*~

there’s a man with a distinctive smile

etched on his face; a sneer that was

chiseled in by a thousand contorted

facial muscles, until all the wrinkles

deepened and the fault lines became

permanent highways leading nowhere

.

but past his craggy visage; his crooked

nose, his ears that stuck out a bit, and his

eyebrows that arch high on his forehead,

only his eyes are in ever perpetual change

sometimes glinting blue, sometimes a dull

grey, sometimes electric green, sometimes

verdant brown, but never black nor white

.

and that smiling man—with the lips so thin

that one would wonder if they were drawn

on with a graphite pencil—sometimes when

time is at a standstill and the entire planet

ceases its rotation, his rugged countenance

smoothens out, his crooked nose straightens,

his ears lie flatter, his condescending brows

fall down a notch or two, and his eyes lose

their chromatic spectrum, flickering away…

and sometimes, if the universe feels truly

unlucky, they might just see him frown.

~*~

I’m coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?

natural wonders

your laugh

was not built

to withstand

a millennia of

sandstorms

and time wars

for centuries,

it’s okay if you

wear it down

.

but if you really

persist to be a

natural wonder,

then at least

find someone

who’ll cement

your smile back

when it degrades

into a frown.
