Macrocosmic Defiance

Heaven knows that I’m born too late
For these ghosts that I chase
With these dreams, I inflate
Painted skies in my brain
Every day, I’m Carl Sagan in space
To escape this old world

~*~

Lift me up to where the sun hits my eyes just right

Ascending the ardent blurriness of reality itself—

.

Hushed diatribes alongside dug molehills of promises,

Reaching the peak of Everest itself, our still momentum;

The gravity of the situation feels as heavy as lost comets

On the ground, daydreamers with their heads crushed

By nimbus clouds, the senseless thunder that lingered

And threatened to take a strangle at wispy-thin necks

.

Caught in a modern guillotine, but who pulled the twisted rope?

.

So hold my hands and twist my wrists nearly backwards

We shall let the gallows humour simply speak for itself again

And carry every fleeting memory to where it aches—where it matters.

~*~

And when I fall to rise
With stardust in my eyes
In the backbone of night
I’m combustible
Dust in the fire when I can’t sleep
Awake, I’m too tired…

anatomical dissection: hands

hold their trembling fingers

hold their nerveless tips

hold their calloused palms

.

that pointed to the blame

that touched the wrong skin

that crashed to the ground again

.

hold all their transgressions

hold all the consequences and

hold me tight when you amputate it.

Blood Will Have Blood

The reverent situation embellished in derelict plinths

A monolithic monument for the glorious and the bold

Calm deceit that shackled itself by the crumbling base

Of the cavalier and honourables, now but history aged

Voices of the casualties pilfered from pernicious graves

What must be forgotten is an imprint of those who saved

The damned beaten down into the ground from which they lay

Sacrificing blood so clockwork eyes may live to see another war-bent day.

Six Feet Under, Stars Above

You’re just another set of bones to lay to rest
I guess it’s time to say goodnight
Hope you had a really good time, good time…

~*~

tonight, the sun will go down

along with a million stars into the ground

fading into silent eviction

and every speck i’ll count is but a perception

taste of blood i feel on my tongue

as heavy as the lonesome bed left unsung

muttering the wrong name on my drowsy lips

sharpening the needles of apologies

perhaps it’ll be alright, if i’m able

or perhaps i’ll end up sleeping on the kitchen table

with a Jack and a flat drunk dial tone

picking up where i left off on the disconnected telephone

but i will never forget your infinite sighs

when you whispered softly “we should die in style”

and tonight, when the sun goes down

i’ll be waiting for you, six feet under the ground.

Nature’s Dulcet Tones

RAINBOW RUNNER

Pulled onto the sky

By last tears of silken clouds

Ribbon of colours.

~*~

MOTHER NATURE’S DRESS

Upon where we step

Flowers, trees, plants, blossoming

Earth; Nature’s soft skin.

FIELD OF DREAMS

On the ground I lie

Blades of grass, shamrock so deep

Guide me into sleep.

~*~

NAUTICAL NONSENSE

Splashing and crashing

The water scintillating

Waving you goodbye.

~*~

MOONBEAMS

Sphere with a dark side

Gleaming white teeth grinning down

What does your smile hide?

THE LAST DAYS OF WINTER

Glaring sun perched proud

Buds of green as it melts, thaws;

Winter’s bone-white snow.

~*~

FIREFLY

Fireflies will guide you

In the valley of darkness

Stars below the skies.

~*~

SUMMER SNAPSHOTS

Tepid weak-willed winds

Ice cream melting by the pool

Sluggish lazy bones.

~*~

LITTLE RAINDROP

See it falling down

Hear it splash, a tranquil sound

Bye, little raindrop.

~*~

UNDERGROUND HEAVEN

I plant little stars

In the hope that they would spring

Into dazzling hope.
