The Taste Of Bad Medicine

Drag my hand behind you
Like a chain behind a truck
Sparks over your carpet while
I chase you through the darkness
Somebody’s supposed to fall in love
But nobody even calls; somebody’s supposed to…

~*~

If I held the gun that made your insides feel worse

Tell me, is it still a blessing or have I become your curse?

Your marionette body makes me fall apart again

After I’ve taken my prescriptions and adjusted my skin

.

I’m too selfish to taste all these abrasive chemicals

Forming newer lies at the tip of my pale purple tongue

So won’t you take them away and shatter up these brick walls

That’s keeping my sanity in, just another emergency man

.

In the bedroom floor where our breaths feel like the new testament

My tell-tale heart is still writhing and clawing desperately at the cement

You buried me in black and white, but all I could see is an endless blue

Starving for some modesty like it’s some unheard modern-day virtue

.

So break me away, I’m responsible for this reckless self-medication

Just to sleep and dream a little longer, just to find something to hold on

Because all I hear is anguished screaming from the other side of that door

And I could only listen so much to this overdose before I could take no more

.

If I held all the pills that made your insides feel worse

Tell me, am I your blessing or do I have to call up a hearse?

Your puppeted agony makes me fall apart, and then

I’ll take two and pass out just so I could call you in the morning.

~*~

Tear this place apart
Until you find me hiding, silently I wait
You’ll be excited just to see me someday
Everything’s okay…

anatomical dissection: neck

the rope

that pulled

me back

was the rope

that made

me choke

i’d love to steal

the show, but

i can’t sing

with these

The Marionette’s March

The fear sets in, of knowing how short our time is
The shortness of stride, not a single excuse to prove
That we were meant for this
Everything starts to spin all at once
If you hear something strange in my voice, its conviction
Detest my words, they have no ill meaning…

~*~

Don’t look back on the patience you lost

The blood that’s been wasted, the casualties cost

A strange voice that hides the bad intentions

Though not yours to atone, suffer in perdition

.

Back and forth, the confused marionette swings

Keys of haunted reveries a rusty music box sings

Conviction relinquished to the uproarious applause

What’s yours will be mine, and sever all the loss

.

And I believe that your hands clap for a reason

Just as why thieves walk free and lambs go to prison

If death was a game, then the dice has been cast

Only those caught in the thorns of the throne shall last

.

We move on, we move on, what’s a clock without the ticks?

To warn of oncoming reparations, sounds rather cryptic

Follow the trail of sunshine as it stammers and falters feeble

Heads and tails decision, let the coin land in the middle

.

And if the theatre lights shut down in this city’s comatose

Bow deep and lay upon your mausoleum a dusty merlot rose

Thus holding only the patience that was once yours to have

Now forsaken and lost like a demon in an ocean of gods.

~*~

Oh dear puppet, wake up
And cut the strings before the next show
I believe that this is in your blood
By all means take your place, take your place
Put yourself into this letter, we’ve all had it alright
We dropped the ball.

let’s pretend

wear our masks

to start the play

of plastic flasks

let’s put a pierrot

smile and crack

the guard and to

fake lost attacks

let’s make puppet

speak funnily

make them laugh

at tragedy

let’s marionette

and dance a tune

burn our feet

into the moon

let’s paint a clown

into contrary

when they find him

quite so scary

let’s make jester

balance on balls

and applaud when

he thus falls

let’s harlequin a

small story for you

the ending’s bad

but it is true

let’s mime an act

of monochrome

make you believe

in invisible tones

let’s be fools and

scaramouches and

buffoons and comics

and madcaps, worst best

for a night of revelry

and entertainment hot

let us all pretend to be

someone we are not.

Presenting…The Star Of The Show

I’m still the same old fictile jester

Making an utter fool out of myself

Laughed at by cruel tomato pelters

A class-A entertainment from Hell

.

I’m still the same old freak show

Adorned with ugly crimson scars

A main dollar and fifty attraction

Your most fucked-up golden star

.

I’m still the same old string dummy

Ventriloquising for false attentions

Puppeting makes me appear funny

In this wooden world discrimination

.

I’m still the same old bad maestro

Orchestrating all my envoi failures

In a barrage of dissonant calypsos

Ending a cacophonic musical score

.

I’m still the same old painted harlot

With one foot stuck in sinking grave

Pity her, oh poor girl, I get that a lot

From snarling vultures I have staved

.

I’m still the same old burnt out actor

Standing in an empty five-foot stage

Masks placed to hide, deceive horrors

Tickets waved by a prop’s appendage

.

I’m still this delusionary world’s same old national idiot pertained

Wishing in vain to live just so I could wish vainly to die another day

Shame that you couldn’t see who I truly am past this velvet curtain

Too late for the encore—the theatre spotlight’s already closing up anyway.

Mister Märchen’s Travelling Cozen Carnival

You think you’re gonna hurt me
Get ready to get dirty
You created this beast inside
Pull the noose tighter
And lift a little higher
‘Cause you’re killing me slow
I ain’t ready to die…

~*~

Mister, cut me a break, what is this strange event that I see?

Must it be what I ought think? Has my wish come true to me?

A sign donning your name flutters, sobriquet painted proudly

A carnival has just arrived in our town? Oh, wow! Oh, goodie!

.

Mister, cut me a thicker slice of your sweetest apple pie

As you tip your bowler hat politely to welcome me inside

To the colourful carnival, yelling out of fun and adventure

Smells of candy floss mingle with sounds of accordion overture

.

Mister, cut me off with elated screams on the rollercoaster

Lay hoops after hoops perfectly on the basketball shooters

Relinquishing my childhood dreams in the spinning carousel

A romantic atmosphere and stunning view atop the Ferris wheel

.

Mister, cut my palms open and read their miasmatic fortune

Raise your psychics up to the Gods and conjure me a Jotun

Sense my aura, read tea leaves, predict my stormy emotions

Promise to cure my limerence with a lavender placebo potion

.

Mister, cut me a great deal and trade my pennies for an airgun

Let me aim at paper targets in simple enjoyment and hopeful fun

The stuffed prized monkeys you keep, I can taste with my fingers

Yet this rigged booth game clearly offers quick profits and no winners

.

Mister, cut me in half with sharpened steel as you claim this as no scam

Make a dove and a bunny appear in smoke, I’ll pick a card, dear magician

Fool me silly and astound me dumb with your clever sleight of hands

Tremendous tricks my gullibility enjoys yet fails thusly to understand

.

Mister, cut my figure down as my body undergoes a horrid distortion

Wavy forms, plump physiques, stick-thin limbs, different depictions

Making funny faces and laughter echoing in the vast hall of mirrors

And I never had to know that they were actually just normal reflections

.

Mister, cut my mind open with your final flourished impressive performance

Rings of fire, ringmasters and lions, amazing acrobats in a gravity defiance

Dancing elephants and bicycle bears, trapeze and tightrope, clowns and ballet

When I applaud for that final curtain and leave, I’m still in an entranced state

.

Mister, cut me off from the tangible world, entrap me in this amazing place

I’m wandering past striped red tents badly lost, like it’s a labyrinthine maze

Like a rat stuck and scuttling harriedly, my scattered thoughts begin to unravel

And you swoop down with a gust of wind, shaking all my respect and marvel

.

Mister, cut my strings and make me dance, call me your ever-faithful marionette

Make me beg for your sole control desperately until you stop playing and accept

Hold the blade against my tongue, crimson and silver clashing in purest sedition

As my balljoint limbs fall apart in a graceless waltz of decadence and perdition

.

Mister, cut me apart, sew me back together, and throw me inside a cell with barred windows

Let the audience pay a dollar to laugh and make fun of this snivelling miserable freakshow

Gander at my deformities, my rejected rarities, my broken traits and finest failures asunder

Proclaim me inhuman, spit in my filthy face, throw peanuts and popcorn, declare me a monster

.

Mister, cut my soul and sanity out, mould them and mix them in a menagerie and throw them carelessly away

For this is what my foolish curiosity has come and garnered, and this is the ultimate price that I will have to pay

This cozen carnival, a deathly deluge of employed slaves and varying circus acts of your victims, doomed forever to stay

Master, you must close up for tonight, for we wish to indulge in our nightmares, and after all, tomorrow’s another fruitful day.

~*~

Tonight, get ready for a fight
So now you know it’s time to ride
My circus for a psycho
Round and round we go,
Look out below
‘Cause I want off this…
