Shades of You

Grey, that’s all there is now.

I used to be the brightest iteration of alizarin crimson, and I wore my lustrous colours proudly on my chest to disguise the bloody cancer secretly tearing irreparable holes inside my slowly-withering system. So bold and reckless I was, that soon I found myself losing full control and suddenly careening headfirst onto your blue brick wall, and well…the collision was more violent, more radiant, more spectacular than you and I and anyone else could ever begin to imagine. No freshest shade of unhealing bruise nor deepest sour of aged wine could ever compare to the stunning explosion of blinding indigo we left on the scene of the accident, that day. The perfect way your incandescent glows and mine contrasted together and exquisitely showered the atmosphere, it was rather exhilarating.

But like everything that’s been left out under the sun just a little too long, the vibrant hues we initially adored and reverently shared started to quietly fade; akin to a rampant disease viciously working its way past our frail bodies, fingertips first. We could do naught but weep dull stardust as we held ourselves together in the tightest embrace, in the desperate yet ultimately futile hopes that we could still preserve our deteriorating youth—that if we hid away well enough, we could keep even just a sliver, even just a sleepless teardrop, of the resplendent spectrum we once thought we would carry along with the siren songs of this universe forever.

But in the end, it was all for nothing.

Soon enough, you had strangely turned into a serpentine shade of lucid green, and my hazy eyes began to see nothing else but charcoal wastelands and bleeding ash. Oh, how we’ve both drastically changed. And maybe not quite for the better. Still, I don’t wish to stain your newfound emerald gleam with my obscene tenebrescence, so as much as it caused a solemn ache to my soulful bones, I decided to completely detach myself and stay away from you for the time being. Instead, I’ll simply attempt to completely capture your eternal likeness onto pure cotton canvas—resolutely translating all of those clashing galaxies and kaleidoscopic tones into softer stencils and lifeless monochrome.

Perhaps someday, if I blink the awaiting future away and press on my eyelids hard enough, it might conjure back even a stray phantom of the forgotten iridescence that your dull, graphite-sketched countenance used to boast; gentle pastels warmly seeping in and bringing back the dusky ochre in your hair, the cloudless afternoon horizons back in your irises, perhaps even reviving the blushing cosmos of your clever lips, boyish and lazily smug as it twists into an elegant sunflower smile. The worst kind. The kind I somehow find myself missing the most these days.

But for now, grey is the only undertone I unfortunately possess. And it’s the only way I could captivate your ephemeral memory to return home within my gossamer dreams night after night after night, until my tiring lungs finally let go of my last saved breath and I inevitably coalesce into a sepulchral heaven—a bleak, distorted paradise where I’ll be doomed to roam with fellow spirits of black and white, for deathless infinities to come.

And after then, after then…who will be left to remember your name?

Rubber Bands

His wrists were so flushed

From the stinging pink blush

Rubber smile lasting a second

Before snapping back away

Rippling palest purple shade

Watercolour lily against peach

Numb pastels the only colour

He could paint without a stitch.

Knight Bright

We got heartbreak in the making
And we’re drowning in the waves
Keep on drifting, it’s the only thing we know
Yeah, my story’s always changing…

~*~

I close my eyes

And all I see is purple

Like chewed gum

Or a pouting mouth

Trying to prove its point

Unsure of what to say,

It stutters and breaks

Into a torn-up smile—

Speaking like gasoline

Falling apart like an adjective

And dreaming like I’m not

Hurt by the seasick hope

And the disgrace in my blood

Rushing all the way to my

Face; the broken blush

Playing my madness in g sharp,

Counting the seconds until

I can close my eyes again

To see that purple mouth

Twisted up into a kiss.

~*~

Burn each other
Leave a little room for hope
I just can’t stop
I like you tearing up my heart
Our future’s dark
But I just can’t stop…

Milk & Candy

Bone-white laces purple throngs

And soft liquid intertwines along

Past the fragile webs of chandeliers

Dissolving clouds in pure ivory tears

A taint of lavender like small ocean waves

Kisses empty blankness with sweeter tastes.

Secret Catastrophe

i am lacklustre—

butterfly wings devoid

of floral-rose shade

lost within asteroids

.

i don’t seek cold seas

or gift-wrapped love

i wished desperate throes

from broken-bent doves

.

only pain lit in purple

unveiled under a night sky

all-consuming death—wanders

in my azure-blinded eye.

Dumb Damsels and a Purple-Haired Knight (A Heroic Story You Don’t Wanna Hear)

When you do me like that can you tell my brain turns off?
No, my favorite set of stairs is the one up to your room
And my heavy set of cares evaporates all around you
Evil comes in pairs and we like what we do
You’ve got me feeling like a walking love song…

~*~

You make me feel like a kiss in the park

And hiding away all alone in the dark

Tangling my fingers when the distant night starts

To visit my messy bedroom, to play its part

You make me feel like a four-leaf clover

And a dandelion in the breeze, dancing together

Lucky twice, make a wish and repeat

Pluck out the shamrock and carry the wind

You make me feel like sunshine lovely

With a heart of bright yellow and words of blue honey

A trip down spiraling staircases until I’m dizzy

I’ll miss a step and fall down, won’t you catch me?

You make me feel like a warrior that just lost

But the princess’ spell is theirs in the end, what matters most

My system is awry with the chemicals that feed

On my serotonin mind, and I feel you like my greed

You make me feel like a poet, and you know it

And all the books that I’ve read don’t compare to your wit

My head’s far too stupid to be making up dumb stories

But I’ll gladly write you a trilogy if you say please

You make me feel like another kiss that was not

An embrace for the shadows, a quiescent game of say what

You make me feel quite funny, but I don’t want to laugh

So I’ll just smile about you in my dreams and let you have the last.

Let’s tangle our legs again
The world doesn’t need us to leave our heads
Let’s tie our breath in knots again
Nothing’s complicated if we pretend…

Hey, Sky Eyes

Drop it right now
You’re one of my favorite few
Can’t stop me right now
Like you’d even want to
What do I do?
You’re one of my favorite, can’t take it
You’re one of my favorite few…

~*~

Infatuation is a stupid word to use on you

And I am about as optimistic as a sinkhole

But these hands are clumsier as they deign

And nimbus clouds grow brighter as it falls

.

It’s out of hand, limerence aching for a getaway

Ecstatic until I’m plastic like dandelion sundays

I can’t be grounded out in the cold, so stay awake

I’ll hide the blush in my skin, if that’s what it takes

.

My dizzy head lies in double time, and my vision’s red

You’re too far from home, but that won’t stop the dead

And a half in my dried mouth, so I’ll keep on ad-libbing

Until every disaster hears the conversations still ongoing

.

The night is a black eye and the purple moon’s just jealous

As ready set stars in my head are restless and overzealous

And I never have time to play favourites when I feel down

I may be a thorn in your neck, but you’re my flower crown.

Ephemeral Bride

I am a million pieces of the sky
I found a way to be alone
I’m gonna wait until you want me
Until you finally decide to go home…

~*~

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Wedding-white veil torn at the seams

Diamond gleam and diamond ring

Purple finger and purple serene

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Efflorescence like an imperial queen

Crystalline wine and crystalline skin

Scarlet bouquet and scarlet lips

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Velvet tapestry fair, thy curtain skin

Sapphire eyes and sapphire crown

Blushing cheeks and blushing gown

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

Mine sweet erudition adorned within

Emerald fragrance and emerald tongue

Golden church bells and golden lungs

.

Ephemeral bride of my dreams

The chapel doors open, the march begins

Obsidian promises and obsidian “I do”

Before grey eyes open up to a greyer gloom.

~*~

I saw her smiling from the top of the world
I saw her sleeping on, amazing I know
If you lower, lower, lower me down
You lower me clearly, so come and lower me…

I’ll be your optimistic black hole
Full of love I can’t control
Let’s keep each other safe from the world…

happiness

comes in little waves

of sipped hot cocoa

and marshmallow bits

warming quiet souls

on a rainy sunday morn

.

happiness

comes in little waves

of day-old biscuits

and mouthfuls of chocolate

and a faint bite of pink

in strawberry and caramel

.

happiness

comes in little waves

of melancholy songs

and purple boys wrapped

in twinkling fairy lights

resting beneath telephones

.

happiness

comes in little waves

of such lone-star musings

huddled under covers and

writing epistles for sunrise

as ink stains the skylines

.

happiness

comes in little waves

of whimsical contentment

and peaceful nothings

amid beating quiet hearts

on a rainy sunday morn.

lollies and laughter

sticky lollipops

turning his mouth purple

grinning as eight teeth

crunch against sugar enamel

.

sticky lollipops

turning her mouth pink

lips as treacly as candy

as toothless gums go clink

.

sticky lollipops

one for him, one for her

sharing flavours playfully

with babbles and a purr

.

sticky lollipops

all over the mat and toys

plastic wands waved about

dancing to nursery noise

.

sticky lollipops

of grapes and strawberries

but there ain’t a sweeter thing

than these two honeys with me.
