Fast Nights in Baltimore Bars

I took a walk for the very first time
On the dark side of the dance floor
Lit a match just to heat things up
But I got more than I bargained for
Mixed drinks, mixed feelings of elation
I should have known it was a one night invitation…

~*~

Stomachaches and bloodshot traffic lights

Sessions under the sewers and later nights

Angels drink in the city’s insalubrious pubs

Travesties and immoralities, say it’s all love

.

Cause a scene, say what you mean and dare

They’ll fall asleep, knowing you’re not there

Imbibe a dose of reality, a handful of ativan

Lose all trace of humanity to become a man

.

Locked up behind closets, seven minutes tore

Therapeutic unzipping for the playbook score

Five vodka tonics and a misdialed phone call

Acrid tang of mouthwash and bedroom walls

.

Champion friends turned cutthroat solicitation

Pleasantaries choked in stones and desperation

Prized devil horns mounted above the fireplace

Stories of grandeur stitched and tailored in lace

.

Cutting problems with kiddie scissors and unglued

Riveted jaws hang open, loathes passed like the flu

Bad bickering of dollar bills paid under the counter

Chances of stolen jackets and spiels of spilled water

.

Billboards of painful neons, signs of dim fluorescents

Hundred-storey buildings and pseudo-smiles crescent

And if we die tonight, then we’ll die feeling more alive

If they find our remains tomorrow, again we will dive.

~*~

Don’t sweat it, forget it, everything is a-okay
Just let it, go then it’s, off to find another face
I make you come just to watch you leave
You walk around with my heart on your sleeve
Don’t sweat it, it’s over now, our time ran out…

Fauxtographic Memory

I keep losing sleep in beds still made from soaking sheets
And I’m still haunted by the ghosts of people still breathing
I already hate the words, they’re not a thing we even share
Stop looking for a metaphor, it isn’t there…

~*~

Photographs in negative slate

Cigarette ash on his fingertips

A lock of hair on the pillowcase

Faint redolence of perfume sweet

Keys hanging on floral keychains

Abandoned stilettos by the doors

Pastel sticky notes on beige wall

Milk spoiling in the refrigerator

Dusty corner in solemn shadows

Familiar strain of a phonograph

Soft touch but a distant stranger

Faltering echoes of ghostly laugh

Red lipstick stains on sheets of silk

And aftershaves of musk and cedar

An empty closet, dirty bathroom sink

His eulogy written in crumpled paper.

~*~

Fauxtographic memory
A mind that’s still developing
I turn my back on all I see
Cause everything feels make believe
You tried to stay, I made you leave
And made the world give up on me
I can’t accept reality…

Pretty Girls Don’t Deserve Movie Seats

Tell me what you want until it hurts, I’ll hang myself in lights
And I will glow for you, the colour, oh my god it sends you
Spinning on this circus ride, we’re farther than we’ve ever been
Stuck in zero gravity we laugh (I think we’re in over our heads…)

~*~

That rasp in your sweet nothings

Tastes like a glitch in the system

Harmed soul so genuinely poetic

I’m catching your heat by a stem

Palm trees and fireworks colours

No alcohol takes away the effects

Of your fingertips, in dreams sour

I can’t sleep to conjure pink death

Cigarette burns on my wrist sting

The dark sunset behind is glaring

Silver rings intertwined your skin

Your confession was not for a sin

I wish I had someone else willing

To disappear with me, I escaping

In pencil lead grey, floral emotion

Victorian ceilings, high as passion

Pray for pain until it starts to hurt

So fall for me, as I’ll crash for you

Local scenes with a reckless spurt

Southern boys paint their sky blue

Against the monochrome filmstrips

Of a grainy romance noir yacht trip

Plastic props and makeup mayhem

Directing takes in a chaotic tandem

I swear both my martyrs eyes’ll haze

Carry me home to a castle lush gazed

You promised me turbulence or spite

It’s a blessing and a curse, can’t deny

You recognise every smile of the sun

Interplay with constellations on a kite

I’ll be the indigo dawn, spilled as I run

Resolutions on a backseat reel tonight

And under the shadow we will whisper

Exchanged melting hearts soft as butter

Whiskey and sobered, on velvet theatre

As exit signs glowed red like a hangover

Tomorrow, I’ll be too wasted with lights

But oh no, I just don’t care about heaven

And if I have the chance to hang myself

On the moon, for you love I’ll do it again.

~*~

I can’t deny it’s getting worse
Trust me, it’s a blessing and a curse
Call me if you’re crashing, we’ll take turns
Hello, welcome to Southern California
Now go back home!

Glimpses in the Garden

Yellow paper aeroplanes soar overhead candy mint skies

The scoops on napoleon ice cream, pastel flavours thrice

Glimpses of the shy sun behind hazes of clouds and milk

Freshly mowed lawn fragrance wafting on afternoon bilks

Silk ribbons weaved together, chromatic red striped poles

Lazed reading, lemonade kisses, insouciant relaxing goals

Fields of neon chartreuse and coasts painted in deep blue

Ravelling riparian tides with umbrellas raised as bees flew

Daydream cloisonné, summery denouement in gold thorns

Slipstreams and vignettes spun on calliope hearts to adorn

Lucky recherché, fruitful fructescence, and agrestic weather

Nickel shops with deciduous fans, on a transient hither-thither.

Mis[s]ery

I miss you

Like hell misses a colder rain

I miss you

Like a masochist craves pain

.

I miss you

Like a lost star on night skies

I miss you

Like a lover misses all the lies

.

I miss you

Like Noah misses tantrum flood

I miss you

Like a psychopath desires blood

.

I miss you

Like fallen angels miss their wings

I miss you

Like a slob misses the little things

.

I miss you

Like a miser misses all his money

I miss you

Like a butterfly thirsting for honey

.

I miss you

Like a junkie addicted to his drugs

I miss you

Like an alcoholic without her mug

.

I miss you

Like the sunset misses the moon

I miss you

Like a trailing song faded too soon

.

I miss you

Like I don’t miss my heart everyday

I miss you

And perhaps it’s better off this way.

A Megalomaniac Megalopolis

″I make money, but fuck money we want love
Give me your heart and your hand and we can run…″

~*~

You missed the crooked target and slammed the painting on the fringe

Your trajectory was fucked-up from the beginning, but you didn’t cringe

It’s a syllogism logic, cold reanimation of glass memories and phantoms

You checked the list and the rearview mirror, but you skipped our column

It was a punch against the viscid honey, my plural interruption of hatred

Unauthorised to sell your bid against me, so you made my grave your bed

Don’t fall on your face love, that countenance is worth a bargain shop

And I’m a thief running semicircles in your grocery aisles until I drop

I’m affluent, but somehow always broke with mercury in my capillaries

I’ll die inhaling fumes but this shit just ain’t worth the expense of money

But I’ll be generous with my emotions, I’ll cash in my handshake on impulse

I’m a millionaire when it comes to stupidity, and I play casino for the fools

You’re the main grand event darling, I’m just the slipshod consolation prize

They cover me with cheap bouquets but this ribbon unravels from the lies

So three cheers for growing up too high, and one more of nepenthe for the road

Gusts of misery pushing you back, this is a tantrum of issues you can’t uphold

Don’t spend sedated backward glances, that mirror’s just screwing up your vision

If you came to bleed radiation and lust forget tonight, let me accomplish your mission.

Winter Heart

summer kites

they danced

on the sunny sky

as the heat

escaped outside

with a sigh

colours splatter

against the

pale cool blue

the sunlight

resonated

its diadem hues

the vista

distorted with

heat waves

and sticky sweat

trickled down

warm naves

as sweet sodas

were passed

right on cue

to help endure

the highest noons

in construe

the weather was

as tepid as

we were told

and yet

i still wonder

why i feel so cold.

PSA Filmstrips Disregarding Sobriety (Rondel)

(One, two, three…)
I remember the frozen sun
Take me back, take me back, take me
What a gift for the chosen one
Heart attack, no way back…

~*~

The madness of a mysterious night

That sobered up the theatric pain

Choked over the counter novocaine

The expense of sanity’s contrite

.

She held daiquiris under black lights

Until pure alcohol stark remains

The madness of a mysterious night

That sobered up the theatric pain

.

Under alleyways the heathens fight

Dignity they lost, bruises sustained

Fingertips were kissed like golden rain

And through it all, shadows shifted slight

The madness of a mysterious night.

~*~

Oh, the madness comes
I got nowhere left
That I can run…

Downtown Dreams

Is it less picturesque than planned?
Here in the car with empty hands, no one’s holding
When I glance at you with a glimpse of blue
Should we go downtown?

~*~

Ravines of green, shorelines of lavender

Hotels of a carpark and chlorine waters

Photos of cherry blossom, us overhead

Tongue tied in hot balloons, hush friend

Downtown abbeys, roads of esoteric tar

Let us sleep tonight and count the stars

And the monsters hurtling from the sky

That will detonate with an escaped sigh

A plastic town with papercrafted people

Melting buildings on the sidewalk pools

Shreds of dreams torn off from the skin

Left under the sewers, no one will listen

Don’t chase the city, don’t you melt away

Don’t shatter clavicles to run from today

That concrete love will only be your wall

It will not be there to catch you if you fall.

~*~

Are we chasing cars in our sleep?
Clinging to a plastic fantasy…

A Moral Travesty in the Local Cabaret

Girls love girls and boys
(Sophisticated, manipulated)
And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way
You got me…

~*~

A most arrogant sophistication

Chins tilted to the moonlight gleam

A simpleminded denomination

Surrender control and nitroglycerine

Their fugitives dance and drown

Blue as the cold bodies on rivers red

Heaven catches your nightgown

Assembling philosophies you’ll wed

Harlequin boys applaud cavalier

Ordaining their Divine Interventions

Picasso girls wipe off their tears

On the cathedral altar manipulation

Burlesque drag queens on Maine

Tiptoe under blacklight streetlamps

Wipe your collar of lipstick stains

To a last full show, one night stands

Dignified heroes caress starlings

For you, I’ll shed skin on spotlight sets

This cabaret act is proving tiring

So darling, pray for passionate naïveté.
