John Smith

“…the sky took on a wonderful deepness of blue…the jerking sun became a streak of fire, a brilliant arch, in space; the moon a fainter fluctuating band; and I could see nothing of the stars, save now and then a brighter circle flickering in the blue.” ~The Time Machine; H.G. Wells

~*~

I. SPACE

He twirled stars on his fingertips

And danced across the galaxy

Held the fragile world beneath his hearts

And that made him very happy.

~*~

II. UNIVERSE

Using a blue boat to circle the celestial colours

He always loved the stellar view and the endless allure

Wading past the milky way and the constellations suspended

And past the blinding supernovas that he created.

~*~

III. TIME

Time never really did matter much to him

They were all just echoing ticks and melting clocks

So whenever things get too awry and grim

He’d make the entire world’s breathing stop.

~*~

IV. DESOLATION

John Smith, he had it all

All the time to spend in all the universe

But one thing that caused his excitement to fall

Was that utter loneliness was his curse.

~*~

V. END

No one was daring enough to travel with him together

And no one lasted long enough to stay with him forever

So all that remains in the end is the tale of the man, lonely all through

With an empty blue boat and a sad heart torn in two.

The Children of the Endless

Shall Fate be surpassed by Time’s willing hand

And thus Destiny be overtaken?

The Universe fails so to understand

Human lives are Awakened, Forsaken

Pain implores high, His Desire overwhelms

Desperation arises from within

While Ecstasy is at Morpheus’s helm

Feeding minds false Indulgence and sweet Sin

Thus Delirium gives way to Destruction

And from Decimation, Death does trouble

A clang of the bells shows Dessication

Decay and Parasite feed on the souls

Children of the Endless, forces of Hate

Fathered by Darkness, your Eternal Fate.

Succumb

My heart’s a ticking time-bomb doomed to soar

My knees constantly wobbling, shaking the floor

My arms are enveloped with endless tremors

My empty eyes no longer healthy, but sunken fervours

.

My mind twists and aches, grappling for a foothold

Slipping, swelling, spiraling deep into the void

My soul is looking for a way out of this Arctic cold

Confused between adrenaline and genuine joy

.

I wish the Darkness Overlord to hear this

And be so kind and merciful as to grant my wish

The power to sleep, to drown all my sorrows to naught

To let the tiring cycles of life leave and my dreamland burn hot

.

If it may be eternal rest, I honestly care no longer

All I crave is the sweet poison of unconsciousness

And my tired conscience perceives that this uncanny side effect

Is nothing now but a simply a minute consequence.

The Angel By My Bedside

When angels fall with broken wings
I can’t give up, I can’t give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I’ll carry you and we will live forever, forever…

~*~

I lay cowering in my bed with some salt and a glinting knife

As they lurk by the foot of my bed, ruthless creatures of the night

Wraiths and monsters and ghosts and shapeshifters galore

Wendigos and werewolves, shadowy demons in their pure raw horror

.

I’ve tried to fight back, to find my instincts as a hunter

There’s no one left to protect me for they’ve both gone, my mother and father

And my bold little brother, who sits and fights beside me too

I try to keep a brave fa├žade for him, but I know he could see it through

.

What’s little of our protective bed is being shaken, slowly being torn apart

We’re both standing on our tiptoes as we slash at their unbeating hearts

But then we feel a touch at our shoulders, a radiant light fills the hopeless room

Our angel has finally heard us screaming, and saved us from certain doom

.

Hearing our desperate prayers when every angel turned a deaf ear

Cast out of heaven and rendered weak, and yet he still rebelled from what they feared

The angel by my bedside, taking great lengths of risk to protect us outright

Ensuring our bed of hope never crumbles, and always providing his ethereal nightlight.

Crimson Butterflies

Fluttering like liquid ruby, their exquisite fragile wings

A lace of glimmers as they rush along, weaving tales, spinning

Amongst the trail of stars and abstract purple fleur-de-lis

Not at all lost, but wandering; uncurious, but wondering

.

These abstruse monarchial creatures set my soul in sole volition

When I’m torn between rebuilding hope and complete demolition

For who’d paint such a bold daring colour of danger and bloody ties

On the aesthetic likes of a delicate, innocent, little butterfly?

.

Standing beneath the skies dominated by a void of deepest onyx

With only scarlet specks to lead me on a life to desecrate and fix

These kaleidoscope of crimson butterflies will surely set me apart

I can only hope that one of them chances to land in my heart.

Dolorous Decadentia

Is your heart singing out of tune?
Are your eyes just singing the blues?
Dirty records from another time
Some bloodstains on your shoes…

~*~

LOVE

Lonely, some are, looking desperately for a lifetime companion

Others may care not for their contagious desolation

Voices of sound reason becomes whispers of absolute treason

Everyone seems to fall on their knees, limerent to a faux ecstasy of a season.

~*~

ROSE

Rampaging against these tidal waves of cruel thorns

Over and under, on my rough skin the crisscrossing wounds are newly-born

Some blood may be shed, some injuries may never come to a complete close

Every pain matters not when I finally reach the single, beautiful red rose.

~*~

FORM

For this waltz of desecration and dignity, hold your chosen lover tight

Odalisque charm or sincere soul, harbinger of darkness or provider of light

Rays of heartless romance that pierce your flickering, faltering health

May your one last dance with life be graceful as you get pulled away by death.

~*~

STAR

Sharpened double blades of luminary constellation

Truculent tempers in a supernova, anger that causes exhilaration

Arrivals and fluxing of colour and chrome, radiant from afar

Relieve the moments when I felt dim and yet you still made me a star.

~*~

JINX

Je ne sais quoi, that’s how my doubtful, errant feelings felt at first

In times whenever I catch your sight, my heart seems to achingly thirst

Now I know the cold truth though, that I was poisoned with a with a diluted love liquid

Xenophilia was nothing but a desensitised lie that you set up for my emotions so insipid.

The Jester

Forcing me upon monkey suits and contriving me to entertain

I try to say so otherwise but my complaints are all in vain

They shoot guns at my feet, to make me do a silly dance

Threaten me with scarlet tomatoes to ensure absolutely no defiance

.

Dignity for decadence, ego for fifteen minutes of fame

A couple tastes of crystal sugar for a supply of lifetime shame

Masks upon masks plastered crudely, thick makeup to hide my frown

Am I still a human being or just another rundown clown?

.

They say to take one for the team, they tell me I’m unfair

When they’re the one making me dangle my nobility on a strand of hair

I wish no more, this life of jests and pie and mockery thrown to my face

Next time you catch me, I’ll be walking slowly towards the end of my life race.

Stellar Blues

I’ve never dreamt of mere earthen vessels

To be cast upon the velvet midnight skies

Rocket engines and metal and satellite links

Floating amongst planets and gaseous fires

But now they’ve all become an inconceivable reality

So perhaps I could dream a little bit bigger than just pocket-sized hues

I would like, perhaps someday, to live out my fantasy

Of sailing out on a spaceship and reaching out for a star named you.

The Last Straw

Don’t try to deny it
You cannot hide it
I’ll be ignited
When I get to watch you burn

~*~

Temper licked at my mind like an uncontrollable blazing fire

My eyes flashed vivid crimson as I envisioned a funeral for a liar

Nerves soared with prickling feelings, as my heartbeat raced impossibly fast

Rigid muscles itching to take a couple swings and break something at last

Roaring and raging from my throat, explosions and eruptions arose

My primal instincts gave way to anger as my senses came to a close

You pleaded for me to stop this madness, but how utterly hypocritical of you

Because you were the one who snapped in half my very last fragile straw.

Deflated Heart

Words can be nails that drive in deep

Don’t hurt yourself; proceed with caution

For your chest may be made of very tough steel

But your heart’s a fragile rubber balloon.
